PathfindersBRWhat is Strategic Planning? And Why are Policies & Procedures Important?
A Business Plan:
A Strategic Plan on the other hand:
Organizations in every industry, every part of the country and most of the Fortune 500.
Every journey needs a road map. You can not take a road trip without a map. You can't make a plan successful if you don't have a plan. It needs to be written down, so that you and your staff can follow the plan in unity. With written plans you and your staff can be held accountable to achieve your goals.
At its most detailed level, the strategic plan is a communication tool and handbook for management and staff so they know what they are doing, how they are doing it, how it is being measured, when it needs to be done by and who does what. The key is having high-quality outputs that show visually and descriptively where you are headed.
We help you receive a comprehensive plan that includes seven different detailed outputs.
A strategic plan should include a mission statement, a description of the organization's long-term goals, ojectives, strategies and the steps the organization plans to use to achieve these general goals and ojectives. The strategic plan may also identify external factors that could affect achievement of the long-term goals.
Both policies & procedures and employee handbooks are vital to protecting a company. Without them you could be sued and lose.
Here's and example:
The owner of a small construction company provided new workers with a hard hat and informed them that it was company policy to wear it while on the job. One day, an employee who wasn't wearing his hat was struck by some lumber falling ferom this truck. He took the boss to court, and won, because the owner had no written proof that it was company policy to wear the hard hat while working. A handbook showing his policy & procedures would have saved him this problem. Also an employee handbook is your communication tools to your staff/employees. They have a direct sources to answer a lot of the day to day questions about vacation, sick leave, departmental policies and more. This minimizes repeat questions. On top of all of the above, there may be laws at the federal, state and local level with which your company is required to be in compliance and perhaps you or your employees aren't even aware of them.
